We hope you enjoy our photographic tour through the new building.
Once inside there are stairs and a lift up to reception. The double door, to the left as you come in, leads into the Dunrossil Centre.
From the Dunrossil Centre there are also doors that lead out into the community garden.
Volunteers, have been helping transform the garden into a wildlife-friendly, educational, safe haven for visitors, residents and of course the local wildlife. The mosaics created by TomatoJack Arts and the sculpture by Natasha Houseago are looking spectacular amongst the flowers.
Young Gloucestershire’s Princes Trust team spent a couple of weeks with us in May. They planted wildflower seeds and renovated our benches and picnic tables. The Heritage Hub volunteers after a hard day planting.
Coming back into the building we have the new reception area and desk, the refreshment area and the Family History Centre. Beyond the refreshment area is the Chester-Master room, the office for the Police Archive staff and volunteers and the community heritage office.
The Family History Society have recently moved into their new office which is now located within the Family History Centre itself.
Back into reception and through the doors to the left of the desk is the research room and the training rooms/volunteer spaces - the Frith and Hockaday.
Behind the public areas is the new corridor leading to the registration office and the three new strongrooms. The strongrooms have been named - Champion after early industrialist William Champion (1709 - 1789), Tyndale after Gloucestershire born scholar William Tyndale (c. 1494 - 1536) and Hartland after local historian Ethel Hartland (1875 - 1960).
And finally we have parking again! At the front and the back.
