Celebrating Gloucester’s Communities and Stories

September provided an opportunity to celebrate the people, cultures and stories that help make Gloucester the vibrant and diverse city it is.

A highlight was the premiere screening of ‘Eid in Gloucester 2026’, a 20-minute film capturing glimpses of this year’s Eid celebrations. The film brings together the thoughts and experiences of participants from a range of communities, including people from both the local area and around the world who have made Gloucester their home.

The event also connected with the Hidden Horses project, which shines a light on another fascinating aspect of Gloucester’s heritage. The project features exclusive interviews with six people from very different backgrounds who have helped put Gloucester on the horse world map. Their stories explore the barriers they have faced and overcome, as well as the inspiration they have provided for future generations.

Together, these projects, which were funded by Voices Gloucester, demonstrate the many different ways in which personal experiences and previously less-visible stories can be captured, shared and celebrated. In due course we hope that both films will be deposited at Gloucestershire Archives.
